Last year I had the pleasure of seeing the Bald Eagles at Lock and Dam 14 in Iowa. This I went to see the Bald Eagles on Sunday January 13, 2013. Here are some of the images I took that day.

The Lock and Dam 14 is approximately 117 miles from my house. It is a basic trip due west on 88 and then 80.

It was a cold day. The temperature at 1pm was 14F with wind chills in the single digits. 

After about 40 Minutes of waiting we finally started to see some action over the Mississippi River.

Eagles started flying over the river looking for food. They would come in waves each lasting about 10 to 15 minutes then taking a break for about 30 to 40 minutes between waves.

The locals would fill frozen fish with air then toss them into the river to bring the eagles closer to shore.

The Eagles would swoop in and grab the fish from the river making for a great photo-op.

People from all over the world come to see the bald eagles. In the past bird watchers from England and Japan came to watch the Eagles. Bird Watching can be a very expensive hobby.

Around 4pm the temps dropped the action died down and it was time to head home.
