A dance with light and fire
A Dance with Light and Fire
In the city of Chicago, between May and October, you can see a free family-oriented public display of fire dancing south of Forster Beach, along Lake Michigan. Once a month, these talented artists perform alongside a massive drum circle. The sights and sounds draw you into an over-two-hour dance of light and sound. As a photojournalist, my goal is to tell a story with images. To try to provide the person viewing my work with something that captures not only the action but the emotion as well. Shooting the Full Moon Jam is a challenge as most of the event you are shooting into the dark. I find myself doing a dance with light while trying to capture a moment where the performer's body and face peek out from the darkness while spinning or breathing fire. Here are some images during the Full Moon Jam this year.
